According to MEPS research, international flat steel sales have been on an upward trend throughout 2016. Significant price fluctuations are expected when negotiations between factories and customers take place in December.
In addition, strong growth is likely to be on the spot for coking coal in the first quarter of 2017, which has more than tripled in recent months, while iron ore values hover between $ 70-80 per tonne.
With the large surges in raw material costs, steelmakers are making a concerted effort to boost sales figures. Competitively priced imports are not available in many Western countries, so buyers accept the higher prices contributed by their local steelmakers to ensure they have enough material.
