Russian Gazprom said it had signed an agreement with Japanese banks Mizuho and Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC) and American JP Morgan Chase Bank for a loan of 800 million euros for four years.
The company said that the signing of the loan agreement took place on Monday in Moscow. The move is "further confirmation of a long-term effective partnership with Mizuho, SMBC and JP Morgan," the statement said.
Gazprom noted that it has been working with JP Morgan since 2004. Earlier, Russian media, citing the Japanese agency Kyodo, said that some Japanese banks were considering the possibility of providing a loan to Gazprom and that the agreement could be signed during the visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to Japan on December 15-16.
