According to the latest statistics released by the World Steel Association, the 66 member countries' crude steel output was 132.402 million tonnes in November 2016, up 5.0% from 126.14 million tonnes in the same month a year earlier.
Crude steel production in the Middle East region grew by over 43% during November 2016 year-over-year. The EU-28 recorded a slight increase in crude steel production by 2.6% in November this year. The output of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) increased by 4.2% during November on an annualized basis.
Crude steel production in Asia during November 2016 increased by 4.7% on an annualized basis. China's total crude steel production in November was 66.290 Mt, up 5.0% from 63.133 Mt in November 2015. India produced 8.010 million tonnes of steel, up 10.7% from 7.234 million tonnes achieved in November last year.
Japan reported a slight decrease of 1.4% in monthly steel production during the month. Steel production in Japan fell from 8.740 million tonnes in November 2015 to 8.618 million tonnes in the same month this year. South Korea's crude steel production declined slightly by 1.3% from 5.847 million tonnes in November 2015 to 5.770 million tonnes in November 2016.
Crude steel production in North America increased significantly during November on an annualized basis - by 6.5%, amounting to 8.844 million tons during the month. The United States produced 6.226 million tonnes of crude steel, up 6.8% from 5.832 million tonnes achieved in November 2015. Mexico's total crude steel production rose to 1.635 million tonnes in November this year, up nearly 20% from November 2015.
