The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine canceled the system of registration of foreign economic contracts for operations with scrap metal by its Resolution No. 1035 dated December 28, 2016. Interfax-Ukraine reports.
"The decree cancels the mandatory bureaucratic procedure for such registration, which actually allows free export of scrap metal, improves the business climate in the country and significantly reduces corruption risks in this industry," the government decree says.
Today in Ukraine there are 616 enterprises for operations with ferrous scrap, including 62 large, 492 medium and 62 small.
On July 12, 2016, the Verkhovna Rada adopted a law taking into account the proposals of the President and for a year increased the export duty on scrap from EUR10 /ton to EUR30 /ton, while canceling the registration of import contracts.
The deficit of scrap metal in the domestic market of Ukraine as of November of this year was 15 percent of the demand of the country's metallurgical plants.
