Copper on the London Metal Exchange rose 0.3 percent as China imports most of the metal. Copper for delivery within three months is sold at LME 5,860.00 US dollars per tonne.
In 2016, China imported 4.95 million tons of copper, 2.9 percent more than in 2015. In December, the Chinese imported 490,000 tons of copper raw materials and by-products, up from 380,000 tons in November, according to customs data released on Friday.
Imports of copper ore and its concentrate totaled 1.67 million tonnes in December, which was slightly lower than 1.76 million tonnes in November, according to Chinese customs.
