Outokumpu provides stainless steel bar supplies for the Sheikh Jaber Al Ahmed Al Sabah Bridge in Kuwait. Deliveries will take place throughout 2017.
All communications have a length of 36 km, of which 27 km is a bridge, and the rest is a sidewalk. The construction of the bridge requires, among other things, 1,200 piles with a diameter of 3 m to reach a depth of 84 m. The bridge is set to become one of the largest infrastructure projects in the Gulf region. Its cost is estimated at $ 3 billion.
Outokumpu will supply 1,600 tons of stainless steel fittings. “Stainless steel is an ideal material for structures such as the Sheikh Jaber al-Ahmed al-Sabah Bridge because of its high corrosion resistance and low cost,” said Kari Tuutti, Head of Outokumpu Long Products.
Outokumpu started deliveries last year, but will continue this year. The opening of the bridge is scheduled for 2018. The bridge is being built by Hyundai Engineering & Construction South Korea and the rebars will be manufactured at BarMill's Sheffield plant.
