In November last year, Zaporizhstal started the reconstruction of blast furnace No. 3. To implement the project, the plant created an intelligent model of a blast furnace, which made it possible to increase the efficiency of the reconstruction and reduce the time required for its implementation. Environmental reconstruction will cost the plant 1.5 billion hryvnia.
After dismantling more than 13 thousand tons of metal structures of the old blast furnace No. 3, specialists erected a new reliable foundation using 128 piles 24 meters long each. It took more than 400 cubic meters of solid concrete to fill the foundation of the furnace. At the moment, Zaporizhstal has started SKD assembly of blast furnace No. 3. The total weight of the metal structures to be mounted on the new foundation is about 5 thousand tons.
After equipping the foundation, the specialists proceeded to the most labor-intensive stage - SKD assembly No. 3. Units weighing up to 300 tons each are transported to the site on modular trolleys and installed on the furnace foundation by a Mammoet heavy-duty crane with a lifting capacity of 1600 tons. About 600 contractors are constantly working on the site.
At present, as part of the reconstruction of BF No. 3, the assembly of the main metal structures of the gas cleaning system has been completed: a scrubber, Venturi pipes, water and drop catchers, and the installation of an irrigation system is nearing completion. The total weight of the steel structures of the new gas cleaning system is 700 tons. Rostislav Shurma, General Director of PJSC Zaporizhstal, said that it has already “passed the equator” in creating a more energy efficient and environmentally friendly furnace.
