Canadian operator TransCanada has unveiled a new application for the construction of the pending Keystone XL pipeline to pump oil in Texas. The project will create tens of thousands of jobs and economic growth in both countries, the company said on Thursday.
US President Donald Trump secured the resumption of the project after his predecessor, Barack Obama, stopped it after years of bickering. While Obama has set the goal of his climate policy to use renewable energy sources, Trump will develop old fossil fuels.
In specific circumstances, Keystone XL is an extension of Keystone, which was commissioned in 2010, and runs 1,900 kilometers from Calgary in the United States to the Gulf Coast. Part of the pipeline in the south already exists. Environmentalists fear that this will increase the emission of harmful greenhouse gases and warn of leaks.
TransCanada has filed a lawsuit against the US government when Obama halted the project after already made investments, seeking damages in the amount of $ 15 billion.
