Russia applied to the WTO on the issue of anti-dumping duties imposed by the European Union on Russian steel. According to Russia, the EU violated a number of WTO provisions.
The Russian side believes that the European Commission committed many violations of the WTO rules during the anti-dumping proceedings.
The first stage of the dispute settlement procedure involves consultation between the parties. According to the EU Ministry of Economic Development, if the consultations fail, Russia will be able to apply for the creation of a dispute settlement group within the WTO.
Russia applied to the WTO on the same day that the organization recognized the duties imposed by Russia on vans in Germany and Italy as illegal.
