The EU's introduction of nearly 65 percent anti-dumping duties on stainless steel pipes made in China and Taiwan is well suited for steel mills in Europe, but it may be disadvantageous for further processors, including those in mechanical engineering.
The European Commission recently acknowledged that welded stainless steel pipes imported from China and Taiwan have so far been sold in Europe using unfair practices. In order to help European producers, Brussels decided on January 25 to impose tariffs for China from 30.7 to 64.9 percent, and in the case of Taiwan, 5.1 to 21.1 percent.
At the same time, not all countries in the European Union produce stainless steel, but produce, for example, equipment for the food and chemical industries. Therefore, from the point of view of these manufacturers, it is better that the raw product is cheaper, otherwise the finished product with a high degree of processing will also be more expensive, as experts explain.
