On Tuesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed an agreement on the construction of the Turkish Stream gas pipeline, which will allow, among other things, to supply gas bypassing Ukraine. The first branch of the pipeline will be ready in 2019.
The signature of the Russian President is the last formal agreement required to start construction of the pipeline. The document provides for the construction of two gas pipeline lines along the bottom of the Black Sea with a capacity of 15.75 billion cubic meters each. One of them will transport gas to the Turkish market, and the other to the south of the European continent.
Experts agree that the main task of the controversial and expensive pipe is to bypass Ukraine. Russia is developing a network of gas pipelines along the bottom of the Baltic Sea and the Black Sea to avoid the need to use the territory of transit countries. This is also explained by the need to reduce the cost of gas transportation and ensure the security of supplies.
