Ilyich Iron and Steel Works celebrates its 120th anniversary today

The Mariupol Metallurgical Plant named after Ilyich Metinvest Group celebrates its 120th anniversary. On February 13, 1897, the first products were produced by the pipe shop of the Nikopol-Mariupol Mining and Metallurgical Society. From that day on, Ilyich Iron and Steel Works has been leading its history.

The plant's capacities allow producing 12 million tons of sinter, more than 4.3 million tons of pig iron, almost 3.7 million tons of converter steel and 5 million tons of finished rolled products per year. Throughout its history, the plant has produced 309 million tons of pig iron, 295 million tons of steel and 167 million tons of rolled products.

The company's products are exported to 80 countries of the world, and their quality is confirmed by leading foreign and domestic classification societies and certification centers.

Today Ilyich Iron and Steel Works is one of the largest Ukrainian investors and taxpayers. Last year, the metallurgical plant transferred over UAH 1.3 billion in taxes to the budgets of all levels. The enterprise is implementing the largest environmental project in the history of Ukraine for the reconstruction of gas cleaning systems of the sinter plant. The total investment is $ 220 million.At the end of 2016, construction began on a modern continuous casting machine worth $ 150 million.

- It was from the Ilyich Combine that the history of the domestic industry began. Here, advanced developments were introduced, and the largest sinter plant in Europe was built. Today it is the flagship of the Ukrainian metallurgy, a well-known international brand. New technologies, large-scale modernization and significant investments allow the company to successfully compete in the global market.
