MEPS International Limited believes that the limited supply in the European market is the main reason for the rise in flat steel prices. In the case of some products, further increases are possible, while imports are becoming more attractive.
European manufacturers are planning to raise prices in the second quarter, but in these conditions, offers from third countries that are not subject to anti-dumping measures are becoming more and more attractive. In many cases, import prices are lower and the delivery time of goods from outside the European Union looks much more favorable compared to the current terms of supply of EU factories.
The increase in prices at the beginning of the year means that stocks in distributor warehouses and service centers are sufficient. Production costs also remain stable. Manufacturers, however, would like to raise prices again. MEPS estimates that price increases are possible for undersupplied products, including galvanized steel coils.
Steel prices in the EU have not yet reached their peak
