Striking Freeport-McMoRan workers at the Cerro Verde copper mine in Peru, who were forced to return to work on Thursday following a labor ministry ruling, decided to restart the strike on March 24, a union official said.
The 13-day strike of 1,300 miners, which began on March 10, was declared illegal by the ministry last week, giving the company the opportunity to fire striking workers.
However, workers said that if employers did not agree to their demands, they would take action again on Friday. Unions look forward to improving the health and well-being of their families and changing the distribution of profits.
