World crude steel production from 67 countries reported by the World Steel Association (Worldsteel) grew 4.1% in February 2017 compared to February 2016 to 126.6 million tonnes
China's crude steel production in February 2017 was 61.2 million tonnes, up 4.6% from February 2016. Japan produced 8.3 million tonnes of crude steel in February 2017, down 0.1% from February 2016. India produced 8.1 million tonnes of steel in February 2017, an increase of 8.9% on an annualized basis. In February 2017, 5.5 million tons were smelted in South Korea, which is 8.3% higher than in February 2016.
The United States produced 6.4 million tonnes of crude steel in February 2017, down -1.0% from February 2016. Russia smelted 5.585 million tonnes of steel, which is 0.3% less than in February 2016. Ukraine produced 1.9 million tonnes of steel, down 3.6% on an annualized basis.
The capacity utilization rate of crude steel from 67 countries was 70.3% in February 2017. This is 4 percentage points higher than in February 2016 compared to January 2017, this is 1.1 percentage points higher.
