The shutdown of the main units of the plant was caused by the cessation of coke supplies and a shortage of working capital. At the moment, each structural subdivision has certain tasks, and in general, efforts are aimed at resuming the work of the plant as quickly as possible and starting to produce products.
Vitaly Nagornyak, Economics Director of PJSC DMK, explains the situation:
“Since we stopped receiving coke from Alchevsk (the last time was in January), although it was the most favorable price option for us, we switched to work with PJSC EVRAZ YUZHKOKS (formerly Bagleikoks). But this enterprise requires an advance payment from us, plus the price for coke is $ 320-325 per ton. And at such prices, it is very difficult to balance the positive work of the plant, excluding the buildup of losses.
There are no questions about the purchase of coke, but it must be imported either from Poland, or purchased at a neighboring coke plant at the price I mentioned above. At the session, one of the speakers drew attention to the fact that other enterprises like ours do not experience problems with coke. Indeed, their situation is better, but one must understand that the same PJSC "ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih" has in its structure some capacities, which PJSC "Dneprovsky Metallurgical Plant" is deprived of. Namely: we do not have our own iron ore raw materials, our own production of coal concentrates for the main production and the pulverized coal complex. So in this situation, it is possible to balance the work of our plant and reduce the degree of social tension only if there is a sufficient amount of working capital and subject to VAT refund by the state.
We are constantly negotiating with all suppliers of raw materials and resources, as well as with potential consumers, in order to receive funds from any sources as soon as possible and enable our commercial services to start purchasing. "
