One of the leading Russian mining and metals companies says it has extended its cooperation agreement with Baosteel Resources, which is part of Baowu Steel, China's largest steel group.
Mechel will supply Baosteel Resources with up to 960,000 tons of coking coal mined in South Yakutia. Coal is shipped through Posiet's own commercial port. The price will be determined monthly.
Last year, Mechel's supplies to Baosteel Resources accounted for 15% of total coking coal sales to third parties. Due to large-scale structural changes in China's coal industry, demand for coking coal will remain stable throughout 2017, while imports of coking coal in China are growing, opening up new export opportunities for Mechel as a major supplier of coking coal.
The company unites producers of coal, iron ore concentrate, steel, rolled products, ferroalloys, heat and electricity. All of its factories operate in the same production chain, from raw materials to high value-added products.
