South Korean steel company POSCO said that coking coal prices (benchmark contracts) could reach more than $ 200 per tonne in the second quarter amid rising prices driven by a cyclone in Australia.
POSCO had previously expected benchmark prices ranging from $ 150 to $ 170 per tonne in April-June.
Cyclone Debbey in northern Queensland has temporarily closed four Australian coal transportation routes for rail operator Aurizon Holdings Ltd in the world's largest coking coal export region. Three lines have already been reopened.
POSCO forecast - coking coal price over $ 200 per ton
