After the termination of the supply of electricity by the Ukrainian energy operator Ukrenergo to the territory of the Luhansk region, not controlled by Ukraine, the energy supply will be provided by Russia. Boris Gryzlov was named as the representative of the President of the Russian Federation in the contact group on the situation in Donbass.
Gryzlov noted that the Ukrainian decision to cut electricity supplies to the region is politically motivated and violates a fragile agreement between Kiev and the uncontrolled region.
In turn, the Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov clarified that "by stopping the supply of electricity to the Lugansk People's Republic, Ukraine has taken another step towards the separation of the territory." “This step contradicts the spirit of the agreements in Minsk and does not bring them closer to their implementation, but, on the contrary, moves them away from the ultimate goal,” Peskov said.
On Tuesday, Ukrenergo completely stopped the supply of electricity to the Luhansk systems, explaining that the reason was huge debts for consumed electricity. Earlier, Deputy Minister of the Occupied Territories Georgy Tuka said that the region's debt to Ukrainian power plants is 11 billion hryvnia.
