The German Federation of the Metallurgical Industry IG Metall announced on May 3 that workers at ThyssenKrupp have protested the company's plans to merge its European manufacturing operations with Indian steel giant Tata Steel, and asked ThyssenKrupp to clearly share its future work.
At the same time, ThyssenKrupp and Tata Steel have been discussing strategic cooperation programs since last year.
IG Metall says the merger could put 15% of European business jobs at risk. At the same time, ThyssenKrupp plans to cut costs by € 500 million over the next three years by reducing the workforce and closing production facilities.
