Turkey's steel production grows 12 percent in January-April 2017

Turkish crude steel production increased 12 percent in the first four months of 2017 to 11.8 million tonnes on an annualized basis.

In January-April 2017, billet production totaled 8.02 million tonnes, up 6.4 percent year on year. Steel plate output in the period rose 26.2 percent YoY to 3.8 million tonnes. Electric smelter production increased 16.4 percent to 8 million tonnes, while blast furnace output rose 3.8 percent to 3.81 million tonnes YoY.

During April 2017, steel production rose 6.5 percent YoY to 3.03 million tonnes, but steel output was down 2.7 percent from the previous month. In April, production of electric smelting furnaces increased by 9.3 year-on-year.
