Outokumpu modernizes stainless steel rod production

In June, the new plant will begin production of stainless steel rods at the Swedish Dangerfors plant in Degerfors.

The modernization includes, among others, the rebar straightening equipment launched this spring. Outokumpu can now supply rods in sizes from 70 to 300 mm. The new line significantly increases the capacity of the plant. The project also includes a warehousing system for delivery in Europe.

“The investment opens up new opportunities for cooperation with seamless pipe manufacturers as well as customers from Europe and Asia looking for rebar and large billets,” said Olle Kalgren, head of Degerfors Sorted. The plant also specializes in special steels such as duplex stainless steels for use in the oil and gas segment.
