EU countries on Monday expressed "deep regret" about the decision of the United States of America to withdraw from the climate agreement. The European Commission stressed that the actual implementation of this step will take several years.
The EU stressed that the Paris Agreement is not subject to renegotiation and must be complied with in all circumstances. The document, adopted on Monday by EU ministers, stressed that the Paris Agreement is unprecedented. It is supported by nearly 200 countries, as well as regions, cities, communities, businesses and other non-state actors around the world.
“The Council deeply regrets the unilateral decision of the US administration to withdraw from the Paris Agreement. The Council also welcomes a number of strong statements from different countries that intend to act in accordance with the Paris Agreement. ”
