Russia may face problems due to lack of gas turbines for ships

Next year, Russia may depend on external supplies of components needed to build gas turbines. Losses due to missing items can go into the millions of dollars.

During the Soviet era, the production of gas turbines was concentrated on the territory of Ukraine. After the collapse of the USSR, cooperation still continued. After the events of recent years, including the annexation of Crimea, Kiev stopped supplying equipment and parts to Russia that could be used for military purposes.

As a result, there is a lack of equipment for the Russian power industry and shipbuilding. Moreover, since Russia has also imposed economic sanctions. This prevents the purchase of turbines from third countries.

Russia should switch to its own production of turbines for ships. Currently, due to their absence, shipbuilding work on several units has been suspended, with some delay of more than a year.

Analysts believe that due to their lack of experience, at least in the beginning, Russians will struggle with serious difficulties.
