European Aluminum is committed to creating a global forum for excess capacity with transparent data and monitoring tools.
Ahead of next week's G20 summit in Hamburg, the group said the G20 must "address the current overcapacity situation in China, which is causing global imbalances in the aluminum industry and distorting international trade flows."
“The G7 has taken a step in the right direction,” said Gerd Gotz, CEO of European Aluminum. “But the G20 must go further and take action,” he said. Last week, Gotz testified at a US Department of Commerce public hearing on Section 232, "Investigating the Impact of Aluminum Imports on US National Security," stating that European imports of aluminum do not pose a threat to US national security and should be excluded from any proposed action under investigation.
