In Hamburg, Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed confidence that in the liquefied natural gas (LNG) market, Russia does not need to fear US competition.
“We are convinced that we have a great price advantage over the US proposal because the US needs to transport LNG on a much longer route to Europe. Therefore, we are glad when there is competition from the United States, because our customers will realize the benefits of LNG from Russia. For us, however, it is important that we conduct fair competition and that economic processes are not politicized, ”as Putin said after the G20 summit in Hamburg.
Putin also stressed the importance of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. He said: “After Germany made the decision to phase out nuclear power, this pipeline is very important for the German economy. We will promote the project because Germany is our most important trading partner in Europe ... "
