Steel consumption in India rose 4.6 percent to nearly 21 million tonnes in April-June (first quarter) of the current fiscal year, compared to the same period in 2016. While steel exports in the country increased by almost 66 percent in April-June, the ministry said in a report.
The ministry's study also showed that total consumption in June decreased by 4 percent compared to the previous month and increased by 5.3 percent compared to the corresponding month (June) of 2016.
“Exports of finished steel in April-June 2017 increased by 65.9 percent and amounted to 1.387 tons. The total export volume in June 2017 amounted to 0.648 million tons, which is 0.9% more than in May 2017, but 20.2% more than in June 2016, ”the plant's Joint Committee said in a report.
