All Ukrainian regions began harvesting grain in 2017, threshing 6.5 million tonnes of grain with an average yield of 3.18 tonnes per hectare, the agriculture ministry said on Friday. As of July 14, farmers harvested grain from 2.0 million hectares, the ministry said in a statement.
The Ukrainian grain area in 2017 reached 14.3 million hectares, of which 6.28 million hectares of wheat, 4.47 million hectares of corn, 2.46 million hectares of barley and about 1 million hectares of other cereals. The ministry said it harvested 3.1 million tons of wheat, 2.96 million tons of barley, and 477,000 tons of peas.
The ministry did not disclose the forecast for the entire grain harvest in 2017, which analysts predict at 59 to 62 million tons, including 23 to 25 million tons of wheat. In 2016, Ukraine harvested a record 66 million tons of grain
