Trump's policy promotes the opening of one of Alcoa's plants in the United States

Политика Трампа способствует открытию одного из заводов Alcoa в США
Alcoa has decided to partially reopen Warrick's closed aluminum smelter. After the Trump administration announced plans to cut steel and aluminum imports, especially from China, aluminum prices in the US are on the rise.

Alcoa has announced plans to reopen three aluminum production lines at Warrick. The restart process will begin immediately, but it will be possible to restart the lines with a capacity of 161.4 thousand tons only in the second quarter of next year.

Last January, the company decided to permanently close all aluminum production lines at Warrick's 269,000 tonnes. The rolling mill and coal-fired power station continued their work.

In total, the plant currently employs 1,250 people, and the launch of new lines entails work for an additional 275 employees who were laid off earlier. Indiana announced a $ 100,000 donation to train new employees, and support the restart in the form of $ 2.4 million in tax credits. Line renewal costs are expected to reach $ 30-35 million.

In total, since the announcement of its intention to cut production, in March 2015, Alcoa cut production capacity by 812 thousand tons due to the closure or limitation of production. Since 2007, the company has lost 31 percent of its capacity, i.e. about 1.3 million tonnes by cutting, closing or selling factories.

The total production capacity ready for re-launch in the USA is at just over 1 million tonnes. Upon launch, Warrick will be the sixth largest primary aluminum producer in the world.
