According to RWI, one of the economic research institutes in Germany, the situation in the metal industry in Germany has improved over the past few months. In the first half of this year, crude steel production in Germany increased by 1.7% over the same period last year.
The German economy is expected to recover and remain stable until the end of this and next year. During this period, investment activity should lead to an increase in demand for steel. The German steel industry is filling many orders but is still insufficient to meet domestic demand, so steel imports are expected to pick up.
RWI expects crude steel production in 2017 to grow by 1.5% to 42.7 million tonnes and is expected to rise to 43.1 million tonnes in 2018.
