World steel production for 67 countries reporting to the World Steel Association (Worldsteel) was 141.0 million tonnes in June 2017, up 3.2% from June 2016.
World steel production in the first half of 2017 amounted to 836.0 million tonnes, which is 4.5% more compared to the same period in 2016.
Asia produced 576.8 million tonnes of steel in the first half of 2017, which is 4.8% more than in the first half of 2016. In June, 86.1 million tons were smelted, which is 4.1% higher compared to the same period in 2016.
Crude steel production in North America in the first half of 2017 was 57.4 million tonnes, up 2.4% from the first half of 2016.
In the first six months of 2017, 49.7 million tons of steel were produced in the CIS, which is 2.5% less compared to the same months in 2016.
Steel production in China in June 2017 amounted to 73.2 million tons, which is 5.7% more than in June 2016.
Japan produced 8.4 million tonnes of crude steel in June 2017, down 4.3% from June 2016.
South Korea produced 5.9 million tonnes of steel in June 2017, an increase of 7.7% over June 2016.
In the EU, Germany produced 3.6 million tonnes of steel in June 2017, down 1.7% on June 2016. Italy produced 2.1 million tonnes of steel, increasing output by 1.8% in June 2016. France produced 1.3 million tonnes of steel.
Steel production in Turkey in June 2017 amounted to 3.0 million tons, which is 7.1% more than in June 2016.
In June 2017, the United States produced 6.7 million tonnes of steel, down 1.7% on June 2016.
Brazilian steel production in June 2017 was 2.6 million tonnes, up 4.0% on June 2016.
The steel capacity utilization rate in 67 countries in June 2017 was 73.0%. This is 1.4 percentage points higher than in June 2016.
