The final decision on trade policy in the area of steel will have to wait until other priority issues on the agenda are considered, US President Donald Trump said in an interview with the Wall Street Journal.
The administration will take time to decide how to block steel imports, Trump told the magazine, adding that "we don't want to do that at the moment."
Trump previously initiated a Section 232 US Steel Industry Review, which allows tariffs or import quotas to be set if it poses a threat to national security.
The law, which was previously used twice - to investigate oil in 1999 and iron ore and steel in 2001 - allows the president to impose import restrictions for reasons of national security.
Trump told the magazine that his administration is "waiting for health care and taxes and maybe even infrastructure" to decide on steel trade policy. "We're going to turn to steel dumping," Trump told the magazine, calling it "a very unfair situation."
