Iran's crude iron ore production will increase to 100 million tons per year from 75 million tons per year by the end of the current Iranian year (until March 2018).
This was announced by the Minister of Mines Mohammad Reza Nematzadeh, speaking at the opening of an iron ore concentrate plant with a capacity of 5 million tons per year, which is owned by the Mobarakeh steel company (MSC), and is the first pellet mill in the center of Sangan iron ore, the largest Iranian production in the north-east of the country.
"The capacity for the production of iron ore in the country is 31 million tons per year, but this capacity will be increased to 45 million tons per year at the end of this Iranian year," Nematzadeh said.
In addition, DRI's current production capacity is expected to be increased to 34.5 million tonnes per year from 30 million tonnes per year. Considering Iran is the world's largest DRI producer.
Nematzade said that it is planned to produce 22.5 million tons of iron ore concentrates and 17.5 million tons of pellets from the Sangan deposits per year. However, due to the lack of water in this area, there are no plans for steel production yet.
