Georgian authorities have formally made a request to Poland to find out if the former Georgian president is visiting Poland, according to Ukas Apinsky, a spokesman for the district attorney's office in Warsaw. It is known that on Sunday evening Saakashvili met with Ukrainians in Warsaw.
The politician left Georgia in 2013 and denies all charges, claims that they are politically motivated. First, Saakashvili went to the United States and then to Ukraine, where he joined in local politics. In May 2015, he received a Ukrainian passport, and at the same time became the governor of Odessa. Relations between Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and Saakashvili deteriorated when the former Georgian president as governor resigned from office, accusing the Ukrainian president of aiding corrupt clans. Poroshenko at the end of July, Saakashvili deprived of Ukrainian citizenship.
On Saturday, in an interview with TVP Info, Saakashvili announced that he would return to Ukraine because he is a Ukrainian politician, and Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko stripped him of his citizenship illegally, recognizing him as his opponent. On Sunday evening, Saakashvili met in Warsaw with Ukrainians working in Poland.
On July 31, the Minister of Justice of Georgia said that four criminal cases had been initiated against Saakashvili in his homeland and demanded that the countries where he was staying provide information.
