PJSC "ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih" is completing the preparatory stage of construction of two new continuous casting machines

Kryvyi Rih, August 14, 2017 PJSC ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih is completing the preparatory stage of construction of two new continuous casting machines (continuous casting machines No. 2, 3), the operation of which will significantly increase the production of cast billets. As part of the company's large-scale investment program, ArcelorMittal is investing over USD 100 million in the construction of two new CCMs.

In January 2017, at the initial stages of the project, the concept was defined, the project documentation was developed and approved. The performers for the execution of general construction works, the manufacture and installation of metal structures have been determined, the supplier of the main technological equipment has been selected - the SMS Group company. At the moment, PJSC "ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih" is completing work on the preparation of the construction site: reconstruction of the highway exit from the Central overpass, construction of a new ingot warehouse to replace the existing one, which is to be dismantled, construction of railway tracks, a new warehouse of spare parts and materials for all CCMs also dismantling and relocation of existing buildings and utilities.

PJSC "ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih" will begin construction work of the main stage in the near future in parallel with the start of personnel selection and training. In the 3rd quarter of 2018, it is planned to start hot testing of the equipment of CCM # 3, after 3 months it is planned to receive the first billet at CCM # 2. The final commissioning of the complex is scheduled for the 1st quarter of 2019.

Currently, PJSC ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih operates one continuous casting machine, with the help of which 5 million 730 thousand tons of steel have been produced. Cast billets are superior in quality to hot-rolled ones, and due to their high yield and energy savings, their prime cost is lower. CCMs No. 2, 3 will differ from the first in an expanded assortment (billets with a section of 130X130 mm will be added to products with a section of 150X150 mm), as well as a higher capacity (1.4 million tons per year instead of 1.2 million tons of the first machine).

The construction and launch of the first CCM in PJSC ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih with a capacity of 1.2 million tons per year was one of the key investment projects in accordance with the Purchase and Sale Agreement of the enterprise. The construction of the first continuous casting department at the enterprise was completed 5 years ago. In 2016, using a continuous casting machine at PJSC "ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih", 1 million 163 thousand 533 tons of steel billets were produced - this became a record figure for the continuous casting machine of the enterprise and one of the best results in the entire corporation ArcelorMittal among the continuous casting machines that produce billet for long products.
