The world's largest gas producer, Russia's Gazprom, will spend over half a million euros monitoring the US gas market. This should help the company to effectively compete with American gas, the supply of which is increasing to the European continent.
On Monday, August 21, the port of Klaipeda in Lithuania received a cargo of liquefied natural gas. This is another shipment of a shipment of American raw materials that has been delivered to the European region. For Gazprom, this means that the Russian gas market is being squeezed out by American raw materials. Now, undoubtedly, Gazprom dominates, but the US wants to change the situation. A number of countries, including Poland, explicitly state that they prefer to buy raw materials from other sources for security reasons.
Meanwhile, a decline in gas sales could mean a deterioration in the efficiency of Gazprom's business. In addition, the Russian budget will suffer, because its income from various taxes will be less. Not surprisingly, the Russian giant plans to spend a lot of money to get detailed information about the model and functioning of the US market, the price changes that take place there and the impact of these factors on the volume of exports.
Gazprom's decision is easy to understand. In the first quarter of this year, the share of LNG in the United States by volume of liquefied gas was 6 percent. At the same time, a year ago over the same period it was only slightly more than one and a half percent.
