The United States sent to Ukraine the first shipment of coal at $ 113 per ton

The United States delivered the first consignment of coal to Ukraine under an agreement between the American company Xcoal Energy & Resources and Centerenergo, controlled by the Ukrainian authorities. This was announced on Facebook by the Ukrainian Embassy in the United States.

Ambassador of Ukraine Valeriy Chaly took part in the ceremony of dispatching American steam coal for the needs of PJSC "Centrenergo" in the seaport of Baltimore in the USA.

On July 31 of this year, the state-owned company "Centrenergo" signed an agreement with the American company Xcoal Energy & Resources on the supply of 700 thousand tons of thermal coal by the end of 2017.

The arrival of the first batch of coal from the United States in the volume of 85 thousand tons is expected in early September 2017, and by the end of the year it is planned to deliver all 700 thousand tons. At the same time, the head of the Ukrainian company, Oleg Kozenko, said that the price of the first batch of coal will be $ 113 per ton, taking into account the delivery to the Odessa port, the price will be adjusted from delivery to delivery.

In turn, the director of the Kiev Center for Political Studies and Conflictology Mikhail Pogrebinsky said that the contract with the United States was concluded by Ukraine to the detriment of its national interests.

“This coal is about one and a half times more expensive than that which can be bought from Russia and approximately twice as expensive as that which can be bought in Donbass. It is clear that this is the basis for criminal prosecution of those who signed this contract. This is a bit like the story with Tymoshenko. , which under Yanukovych was accused of concluding an unprofitable contract.But then world oil prices fell, respectively, gas prices fell, so the contract was at least somehow justified.This decision of the authorities cannot be explained by anything - it was clearly taken against national interests ", - says Pogrebinsky.
