World steel production from 67 countries reporting to the World Steel Association (Worldsteel) was 143.2 million tonnes in July 2017, up 6.3% from July 2016.
Steel production in China in July 2017 amounted to 74.0 million tons, which is 10.3% more compared to July 2016. Japan produced 8.6 million tonnes of steel in July 2017, down 4.3% from July 2016. India produced 8.4 million tonnes of crude steel in July 2017, increasing output by 3.5% over July 2016.
In the United States, 7.1 million tonnes of steel were smelted, up 5.6% from July 2016. South Korea produced 6.2 million tonnes of steel in July 2017, increasing output by 2.3% compared to July 2016. In Russia, steel production increased by 4.6% to 5.585 million tonnes.
The capacity utilization rate in 67 countries in July 2017 was 72.1%. This is 3.2 percentage points higher than in July 2016. Compared to June 2017, this is 1.5 percentage points lower. Source: WorldSteel Association
