Weekly US coal production for the week ended Aug. 19 was 17.02 million tonnes, up 3.4% from the previous week and 12.3% from a year ago, according to data from the US Energy Information Administration. (EIA).
It was the highest weekly estimate since the start of the year, and for the first time since early February, production estimates rose 17 million. The increase in production comes as stocks continue to decline and coal consumption and coal exports are higher. Even Ukraine is now exporting coal from the United States, helping American miners' profits.
Based on the latest EIA estimates and revisions in the first quarter, 2017 U.S. coal production is 8% more year on year than last year.
