Steel production in Ukraine for eight months, including August, rose 16 percent year on year to 13.8 million tonnes. However, the country did not make it to the top ten largest steel producers in the world, although it ranked tenth for many years.
Steel production rose 5.5 percent in 2016 to 24.2 million tonnes as the industry rebounded from a sharp drop in the previous year due to the conflict in eastern Ukraine, where most of the country's steel production is based.
Producer data showed that in the first eight months of this year, pig iron production fell 20 percent to 12.8 million tonnes, while rolled steel production fell 18 percent to 11.8 million tonnes.
In August, Ukraine produced 1.925 million tons of steel, 1.817 million tons of pig iron and 1.609 million tons of rolled products.
In September, steel production is likely to reach 1.9 million tonnes.
Steel makes up the bulk of Ukraine's exports, chemicals and agricultural products.
