World steel production in August 2017

World steel production for 67 countries representing the World Steel Association (worldsteel) was 143.6 million tonnes in August 2017, up 6.3% from August 2016.

Steel production in China in August 2017 amounted to 74.6 million tons, which is 8.7% more compared to August 2016. Japan produced 8.7 million tonnes of steel in August 2017, down -2.0% from August 2016. India produced 8.5 million tonnes of crude steel in August 2017, up 4.1% from August 2016.

The utilization rate of steel production capacity in 67 countries in August 2017 was 72.2%. This is 3.3 percentage points higher than in August 2016. Compared to July 2017, this is 0.2 percentage points lower.
