PJSC "ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih" is reconstructing sinter machine No. 5

PJSC "ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih" is carrying out the reconstruction of buildings and structures of the sinter machine complex No. 5. The work is carried out within the framework of the investment program of the enterprise, which includes the ecological and technical modernization of the sinter shop No. 2. The cost of the reconstruction project for sintering plant No. 2 is more than USD 150 million.

The purpose of the reconstruction of sinter shop No. 2 is to reduce the impact of production on the environment, to reduce the level of dust and gas emissions, to increase the technical reliability of equipment, shop productivity and reduce energy costs. This is a long-term project that provides for the reconstruction of the entire equipment complex of the sintering shop No. 2, in which six sintering machines operate.

This investment project is being implemented in stages. The work began with the reconstruction of the sintering machine No. 6. Its renovation with the installation of modern equipment was completed in 2016, and at the moment the machine is in operation.

During the reconstruction of sinter machine No. 5, it is planned to install new aspiration systems and replace gas cleaning. The energy-consuming and outdated wet type of gas cleaning will be replaced by modern and high-tech equipment - electrostatic precipitators, which dry process gases from dust. They are already being used on sintering machine No. 6 and are showing results - this is a more efficient way of collecting dust, which allows to significantly reduce the technogenic load on the region, while contributing to energy savings.

Dmitry Shcherbak, Project Manager of the Investment and Engineering Department of PJSC ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih: “The project for the reconstruction of sinter plant No. 2 is designed for several years, since we will have to reconstruct and modernize all six sintering machines in stages, without stopping the entire production. Reconstruction of each of them is a complex of works that requires significant training and participation of specialists from many services, both our company and contractors. In addition to the environmental component, the comprehensive modernization contributes to an increase in the reliability of equipment and an increase in the productivity of the sintering shop No. 2. During the reconstruction at sinter machine No. 5, it is planned to replace the linear cooler, sintering trolleys, an incendiary hearth, gas manifold, metal structures of the sinter machine, exhauster and other equipment. The commissioning of the updated sintering machine with a new aspiration system and gas cleaning is planned in December 2017 ”.
