Copper is still getting more expensive on the London stock exchange. Metal on the LME in 3-month delivery was valued after the opening session at $ 4.50 higher compared to January 10 - after $ 7,155.50 per tonne.
This was in reaction to forecasts by Citigroup analysts that there are risks of rising metal prices due to China's environmental policies - mainly against smog.
"The tightening of environmental regulations in China is one of several risks to metal prices in 2018." Citi experts write in a note dated January 10.
“Disruptions in the supply of copper from Chinese factories may occur more often than before due to intense environmental restrictions,” they said.
Experts at Bank China International are forecasting this week that metals, including copper, should benefit in 2018 from a growing global economy, a weak dollar, or declining bond prices.
“By the fourth quarter of 2018, the average copper price could rise to $ 7,500 per tonne, in other words, stars could still be favorable for raw materials,” the report said.
