Iron ore production in the country is projected to decline by 15 percent in 2018 after steadily growing for two consecutive years due to the closure of seven working mines in Odisha, while production cuts in Goa will impact overall production.
“During 2016-1917, the production of iron ore amounted to 191 million tons. It is anticipated that production for the current fiscal year may be less than 2016-17 due to a possible drop in production in Odisha and Goa states. The closure of mines in Odisha will have a negative impact on iron ore production by 15-20 percent, ”said the Federation of Indian Mineral Industries (Fimi).
In the last fiscal year, the country exported 30.48 million tons of iron ore. During this fiscal year, iron ore exports totaled 10.11 million tonnes (until the end of August). Exports are likely to be much lower in the current fiscal year compared to the previous year 2016-17
