The steelmaking plant Interpipe Steel, which is part of the integrated pipe-and-wheeled company Interpipe from Dnepropetrovsk, increased steel production in January 2018, according to operational data, by 25% compared to the same period in 2017 - up to 75 thousand tons.
The enterprise in December 2017 produced 76 thousand tons of steel, in November - 78 thousand tons. Interpipe Steel is the first metallurgical plant built from scratch in Ukraine over the past 50 years. The total investment amounted to $ 700 million. The first steel was smelted in January 2012.
The work of the plant is aimed at providing pipe and wheel production of TKK Interpipe with billets of its own production. Interpipe is one of the ten largest manufacturers of seamless pipes in the world, and is the third largest manufacturer of solid-rolled railway wheels in the world.
The output of round steel billets in 2017 amounted to 850 thousand tons, which is 38% higher than in 2016. The key factor behind the increase in production, along with the growth in orders, is the effect of the export duty on scrap metal. Almost all of the produced volume of steel was sold to the group's own plants, 23 thousand tons of steel were shipped to third-party consumers.
In 2017, Interpipe increased sales of pipe and railway products by 35% compared to 2016 - to 767 thousand tons. Sales of pipe products increased by 31% and amounted to 595 thousand tons. Sales of railroad products such as wheels, tires, axles and wheelsets rose 51% to 172,000 tonnes.
The ultimate owner of Interpipe Limited is Ukrainian businessman Victor Pinchuk and his family members. The company employs 11.5 thousand people.
The company unites five industrial assets: Interpipe Nizhnedneprovsk Pipe Rolling Plant (NTZ), Interpipe Novomoskovsk Pipe Plant (NMPZ), Interpipe Niko-Tube, Dnepropetrovsk Vtormet and Dniprostal Electric Steel Smelting Complex under the Interpipe Steel brand.
