In the period from January to July 15 of this year, gas production by Gazprom reached 270.1 bcm. This is 8.5 percent more than in the same period last year. Gas exports have also increased.
The Russian company's production in absolute terms is 21.2 bcm higher than last year. During the period under review, gas exports by the Russian giant amounted to 108.9 billion m3. This is 5.8 percent more (in absolute terms, 6 billion m3) than a year earlier.
Gazprom has strengthened its position in most markets. Gas sales to Germany rose 12.2 percent. (about 3.5 m3).
What is the reason for the increase in gas sales in Europe by the Russian company?
This is a combination of several factors. First, the long winter caused exceptional drainage of underground gas storage facilities. Secondly, the Netherlands is one of the traditional gas suppliers on the EU market, but for various reasons, gas production in this country is rapidly declining. Gas is being replaced by Russian raw materials.
Gazprom is the largest gas supplier to the European market. It covers over a third of European demand. Some experts believe that the growing share of Russians in the European gas market may pose a threat to energy security for the EU countries.
