China has targeted US agriculture heavily as peoples exchange blows following US steel and aluminum tariffs, fueling the escalation of the trade war. But fortunately for American farmers, they seem to have escaped the final blow.
Most of the major US crops have already been affected by previously announced Chinese tariffs, so the new tariffs announced Friday on US goods of around $ 60 billion, leaving farmers largely unscathed.
In the broader picture, US agriculture has been hit hard by the trade war. In July, China imposed duties on US shipments of soybeans, cotton, pork, corn, wheat and other items. Farmer groups denounced trade tensions as soybean futures fell.
