In the summer of 2011, Metinvest began digital transformation and implementation of the SAP platform (Systems, Applications and Products in Data Processing. Systems, Applications, Products for Data Processing). The company did not limit itself to automating processes through standard applications and offered its solution for planning the technological chain - from coal supply and coke production to pig iron production. The result allowed the company to save money and gain recognition in Europe.
The idea to use mathematical models for planning the technological chain appeared in 2006. The plans began to be implemented only in 2014, when, during the reboot in the Metinvest Group, the S&OP functions decided to avoid laborious manual work with huge data sets in Excel by automating planning procedures in SAP.
The obvious economic feasibility and personal involvement of the new management of the function led to the fact that by the end of 2014, SAP calculated an annual business plan for all metallurgical enterprises of the group, and by the end of 2015, GOKs entered the planning perimeter in SAP.
The continuous advantages of the model were overshadowed by a single nuance: it could not be transferred to SAP and linked to the global planning system. A solution had to be found.
To do this, Metinvest had to bring the problem to SAP international forums. The expert council in Waldorf, Moscow and Kiev racked their brains for several months. As a result, Metinvest was able to supplement standard SAP applications with its own mathematical models. Six months later, the model started working in the system.
Now experts from the Directorate for Economics and Business System Development are working on a new strategic planning project that will save hundreds of millions of dollars rather than tens of millions. We are talking about a planning tool for 10 years, which will enable you to manage the value of the company.
Metinvest has developed software that helps it save $ 20 million annually
