Paramjit Kalon named the main reasons affecting the investment climate in Ukraine

At the conference of the European Business Association (EBA) in Kiev, the General Director of PJSC ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih and member of the EBA Management Board, Paramjit Kalon, named five main challenges that, in his opinion, foreign investors face in Ukraine.

The first thing that is necessary for the stable operation of large international companies is a favorable attitude towards investors throughout the entire period of their activity. They should not be remembered only when buying assets and investing money - they need support on an ongoing basis.

The second is labor law reform. Ukraine needed to reform labor legislation yesterday, and if not yesterday, then today. But in no case put it off until tomorrow. If there are no positive changes in this area of ​​law, then Ukraine will not be able to build market relations between employers and hired personnel following the example of other countries.

The third challenge is the continuous outflow of qualified, competent specialists from Ukraine to other countries, primarily to Poland. Because of this, Ukraine is losing more and more workforce - this is becoming one of the key problems not only for the country as a whole, but also for many enterprises located on its territory. On the example of our enterprise, we see that it is necessary to hire more personnel to replace qualified specialists.

The fourth condition for the stable work of investors is the improvement of tax legislation. The Ukrainian government says that changes in taxation will have a beneficial effect on small and medium-sized enterprises - and we support such changes for the better. But besides this, there are many issues that need to be resolved in the field of taxation. In particular, we are talking about the introduction of a tax on withdrawn capital. Another urgent problem concerns the tax policy for land lease. In Kryvyi Rih, local governments raise the cost of renting land many times over - and this cannot be called a good attitude towards investors.

And finally, the fifth challenge we face is constant interference in the activities of enterprises by various inspections, services and regulatory bodies. And today, with the approach of elections, the activity of officials increases many times, the negative impact on enterprises from their side is increasing.

In addition, the General Director of PJSC "ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih" drew the audience's attention to the problems in the infrastructure industries, first of all, to the problem with railroad transportation of goods, this topic is of concern to many large industrial enterprises, including mining and metallurgical enterprises.
