According to data published by the World Steel Association (worldsteel), the world produced 151.7 million tons of steel in August 2018, an increase of 2.6%.
Steel production in China rose 2.7% from August last year to 80.3 million tonnes, while India produced 8.8 million tonnes, up 3.7% from August 2017. In Japan, steel production reached 8.8 million tonnes, up 0.9% on the previous year, while South Korea's figure remained unchanged at 6.1 million tonnes.
In Europe, Spain produced 1.2 million tonnes of crude steel, up 6.6% from last year, while Italy also produced 1.2 million tonnes, up 6% in August 2017. The French produced 0.9 million tons, which is 16.8% less than last year.
Steel production in Turkey decreased by 5.7% for just 3 million tons, and Ukraine's output amounted to 1.8 million tons, down 3.7%.
The United States produced 7.5 million tonnes of steel in August, up 5.1% over August last year.
